At Christmas time, one of our fellow bloggers posted an activity using Target fruit snacks. I can't find it, but I found the latest fruit snacks from Target. I made a response sheet for them. The fruit snacks are available for a limited time.

Dr. Seuss Word Work Station Freebie
Today was the first day of our Dr. Seuss unit, the kiddos were quite busy with their math and literacy work stations. One of their favorite stations is the Word Work station. One of my word work stations is attached to the back of my chart stand. The cards are magnetic and they use magnetic letters to make the words. I have an extra word card so my more advanced students can alphabetize the words by first letter after making the words.

Saving the Liberty Bell
We are in the middle of our American Symbols unit. I shared Saving the Liberty Bell with my kindergarteners today and they were intrigued that it was a true story. (It's a great book to introduce the fact that a nonfiction book doesn't necessarily have to be a book of photographs.) They were also very impressed that a kid could help save an important American symbol. If you haven't read this book, I highly recommend it. (I sound like a Reading Rainbow book commercial!) I am so glad that there are many wonderful books about our national symbols that engage children. The books below have my personal recommendation.
