Another December Math Game (Cheap and Quick!)

Zip on over to Dollar Tree and pick up 3 of these games. You will need 2 gameboards and 15 snowmen and 15 gingerbread men.  (There are only 14 of each in 2 packages). I will save the extra pieces from the third package, just in case one or two gets lost.

Just as in the Presents game I posted yesterday, you can add or subtract with this game. I bought this same type game in October in the shape of candy corn and it was a big classroom hit. Stay tuned, I am trying to design lots of great December games to review math concepts we've covered since the beginning of school.

I am not usually one to rush the holidays, but I have seen, bought and downloaded so many wonderful Thanksgiving activities that I decided to look around Target and Dollar Tree to see if they had put out any neat Christmas things that I could use to make Christmas workstations. So far, the pickings are slim but I found some cute mini bows and I made a Presents game. I love these games, they can be used to add or subtract.  Each student will have 20 bows and a gameboard. To subtract place a bow on each present and roll to remove. For adding, place the bows on after a roll of the die.   Just download the gameboards, laminate them, use mini bows or you can even dye some bow tie macaroni to use as bows.  The students really love these games.

The Ghosts and Jack-o-lanterns More and Less Game was a big success in our class the past week.  I found a box of bats table scatters in the Target Dollar Spot so I decided to make a new game. It's played the same way as the game in the October 2nd post. (If you don't have bats or ghosts, use white and black unifix cubes)  I'll add a Smartboard game tomorrow.

Target Finds and a Math Game Freebie

Why do they put the Target Dollar Spot where they do? Because they know a kindergarten teacher has no willpower whatsoever! I prove their theory right each time I walk through their door. This season they have ghost and bat table scatters, along with pumpkins, acorns and leaves (in 2 colors!!) They also have pumpkin, black cat, and ghost erasers in 2 sizes. Did I have to buy them all? Of course! We have been working on the Common Core Math Standard:
K.CC.6  
 Identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal to the number of objects in another group, e.g., by using matching and counting strategies. 

I made two levels for my students and I'll include both gameboards. You don't have to have erasers either, orange and white unifix cubes work just as well!

Tally sheet

Have a supply of 2 types of  unifix cubes or erasers for students and dice. They will take turns rolling and placing their erasers on the gameboard. When the gameboard is filled, students will each count their erasers and determine which set is greater/less. I also am including a tally sheet, because they will be encouraged to play several games.

Kindergarten Common Core

I saw several posts today about the Kindergarten Common Core workbook today. I am constantly searching for resources to make sure I give my students a strong foundation. I went to their website and downloaded the sample. I am most impressed by this workbook.
