Pumpkins Five Game

We have been working on adding and subtracting fluently to 5.  I designed this game for my math workstations. The game boards have five pumpkins and there's a set of several sets of cards from 0-5. I placed the cards in the jack-o-lantern box.You will also need a set of two color counters. Choose a card, place that number of red counters on the board. Then place the remainder of the counters yellow side up. Record them on the pumpkin response sheet and write the equation.

Guided Reading in Kindergarten

I have maintained a website Linda's Learning Links for the past 10 years. It will be closed down in September. Guided Reading in Kindergarten has been one of the most popular pages on my website. I've updated the page and turned it into an article. I spend the first month of school teaching the routines of guided reading. As students make progress and are assessed for reading levels, guided reading groups change. In future posts, I will share information sheets that I maintain for each student. I hope you will find the article helpful.

Tops and Bottoms

Here are some ideas for one of my favorite books. There's color pictures for retelling the story (I'm going to put the pieces in my Retelling Center) and a response sheet. I take a half sheet of light blue construction paper, have the students color half brown, color, cut out vegetables and paste in correct place on sheet.

Bunny Math Game

If you are a long time reader of my blog, you know I can't resist regular trips to Dollar Tree, Target and WalMart. My sweet cousin, a fellow kindergarten teacher in Mississippi found the bunny trays at WalMart ($.97 each). I bought 5 and found some mini Easter erasers ($1.00) at Target. We are going to play the game with dice. Two erasers will be placed in each indention. To play the game, the students can only remove erasers from the indentions if they roll a 2, 4 or 6.

Dr. Seuss Word Work Station Freebie

Today was the first day of our Dr. Seuss unit, the kiddos were quite busy with their math and literacy work stations. One of their favorite stations is the Word Work station. One of my word work stations is attached to the back of my chart stand. The cards are magnetic and they use magnetic letters to make the words. I have an extra word card so my more advanced students can alphabetize the words by first letter after making the words.
